Well it was a busy first day of Women’s Health topics at the APA National Conference. The most compelling information that I became aware of is how well Women’s Health Physiotherapy is performing in the research area. Women’s Health has strong evidence in childbirth and ante-natal care; post mastectomy lymphodema management; osteoporosis; pregnancy related back and pelvic girdle pain and most particularly pelvic floor dysfunction. What this means is that there are many good trials based on randomized blinded research to show that physiotherapy interventions do make a difference to outcomes.
The other interesting snippet was that in a study by Kari Bo this year showed that 26 % of Pilates instructors report that they are suffering urinary incontinence!
There was lots more but it is late and we have a 7am(!?) start tomorrow so will save the rest for another day.
